Your Complimentary First Orthodontic Visit

Ferri Orthodontics offers a free orthodontic consultation for anyone looking to straighten their teeth and/or fix their bite. We feel it is extremely important for you to meet Dr. Ferri and the team, learn all about your treatment options, what treatment will cost, and all the financial payment options we offer before making such an important investment to improve the health of your smile. This initial visit is designed to give you a comprehensive overview of your orthodontic treatment plan and answer any questions you may have.

Your First Visit: What to Expect

In this first appointment, we will typically include having x-rays taken. An essential component of any dental treatment plan, x-rays allow the doctor to see the structure of the jaw, the position of teeth (including those that may still be below the surface), tooth decay, and malformed roots. These detailed images are crucial for developing an effective orthodontic treatment plan tailored to your unique needs.

During your first visit, we will also gather your medical history. It is important that your medical history be truthful, up to date, and include the frequency and doses of any medications (whether over-the-counter or prescription) that you are taking. While gathering your medical history, we will also ask you about any recent illnesses, hospitalizations, and surgeries you may have had, as well as any fears you may have about dental treatment. This thorough review helps us provide safe and effective orthodontic care.

During your first visit, we will also discuss insurance and payment options, as well as your orthodontic goals. Understanding your dental insurance plan and the orthodontic insurance coverage available to you is crucial for planning your treatment.

Collecting this information and having a thorough medical history helps the doctor understand your medical needs and select the most safe and effective method of orthodontic treatment for you. Our goal is to ensure you feel informed and confident about your orthodontic journey.

The doctor will evaluate your records to develop a custom treatment plan and discuss your treatment with you in detail, including the length and cost of treatment for your particular case. These records are also helpful in tracking the progress of treatment as the teeth move. We strive to provide affordable orthodontic treatments without compromising on quality.

During treatment, we will see you at regular intervals 6 to 8 weeks apart.

Regular Orthodontic Appointments

The initial appointment to get your appliances—braces, expanders, etc.—usually takes between one to two hours. We will then see you at regular intervals 6 to 8 weeks apart for an adjustment, which takes anywhere from 10 to 40 minutes. Our regular office hours are Monday – Thursday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Patients are seen by appointment only. We make every effort to be on time for our patients and ask that you extend the same courtesy to us. If you cannot keep an appointment, please notify us immediately. If possible, only cancel if it is an emergency, as it may be difficult to reschedule you during prime times since most appointments are made 6 to 8 weeks in advance. Consistent appointments are key to successful orthodontic treatment and achieving your perfect smile.

Payment & Office Policies: Making Orthodontics Affordable

Cost of Orthodontic Treatments

The cost of treatment depends on the severity of the patient’s problem. You will be able to discuss fees and payment options before treatment begins. We offer several different payment plans to suit all budgets. We also accept assignment from most insurance plans and file the necessary papers to the insurance company. We work hard to make orthodontics affordable. Understanding your coverage limits and orthodontic insurance coverage can help you plan accordingly.

How We keep Braces Affordable

In an effort to keep orthodontic fees down while maintaining the highest level of professional care, we have established this financial policy:

  • If full payment is made at the onset of treatment, we will offer a bookkeeping discount. (If you have insurance, we will offer a discount for payment of your portion of the fee that will not be covered by insurance.)
  • To fit your individual needs, financial arrangements can be made to extend your payments over a period of months.
  • For your convenience, we accept payment by Visa, MasterCard, and Discover.
  • In cases of serious delinquency, treatment will be discontinued, although we will make every effort to accommodate patients with temporary difficulties.

Orthodontic Insurance

If you have insurance, we will help you to determine the coverage you have available and provide you with an estimated benefit. We ask that you assign your insurance benefit to us. The balance will be arranged for you to pay (see above). Professional care is provided to you, our patient, and not to an insurance company. Thus, the insurance company is responsible to the patient and the patient is responsible to the doctor. We will help in every way we can in filing your claim and handling insurance questions from our office on your behalf. Choosing the right dental insurance plan and understanding your dental insurance coverage can make your orthodontic journey smoother.

FAQ

Do I still need to see my general dentist?

Yes! We recommend seeing a dentist at least twice a year or every six months. Regular dental checkups allow you to adequately monitor your oral health and allow your dentist to find early signs of decay. Oftentimes, if you wait until you can feel a problem in your mouth, it has already progressed to an unnecessary point. Regular checkups give your dentist the opportunity to detect problems early, while they are still manageable. Maintaining dental health is crucial during orthodontic treatment.

A typical checkup includes an oral exam by the doctor, a thorough cleaning, and polishing. During the oral exam, the doctor will check your mouth, tongue, teeth, cheeks, and gums for overall health and early signs of disease. The doctor will also check your fillings and restorations to make sure that none of them are chipped, cracked, or worn away.

What's the difference between a dentist vs an orthodontist?

Dentists and orthodontists both play crucial roles in maintaining your oral health, but they focus on different aspects of care. Dentists handle general dental treatments such as cleanings, fillings, and crowns. Orthodontists, on the other hand, are specialists in correcting alignment issues and guiding tooth movement through orthodontic treatments like braces and clear aligners. Orthodontists undergo additional years of specialized education beyond dental school to gain expertise in these areas. Understanding the difference helps you seek the right treatment from the right professional.

When should my child be seen by an orthodontist?

Since most children do not get their first permanent teeth until they are roughly six years old, we recommend that you schedule an orthodontic checkup for your child when he or she is no older than seven. This gives the orthodontist an opportunity to spot problems early, which can potentially save treatment time and costs later. Early intervention can prevent more complex orthodontic issues in the future.
